Complimentary NICU Portraits
Congratulations on your new addition, and thank you for your interest in my complimentary NICU portraits! I'm pleased to offer these portraits to you and your family.
I am a registered nurse in a NICU here in Charlotte, North Carolina and working with preemies and newborns is my passion. I offer complimentary portrait sessions to families with babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
Perhaps you were planning on a newborn photographer coming to your home before your baby decided to make their untimely appearance in this big world. Well now, it's still possible. I'm gifting you with a little normalcy in your unique and challenging situation. NICU families deserve a little piece of love while they go through their most difficult times and often lengthy stays in the NICU.
Pierce's Project graciously helped me get started photographing families and babies in NICUs in hospitals in the Charlotte area. If you don't know anything about Pierce's Project, it is a wonderful organization started by the family of a preemie, Pierce, born at just 23 weeks! Click here to read more about this generous organization! In 2021, Pierce’s Project was acquired by Bee Mighty, providing even more financial support to families in Charlotte area NICUs. Bee Mighty continues to fund NICU portraits and the program has expanded to serve families at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital and Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital.
Do you know of any families of preemies? What about mothers of twins or triplets? These portraits are absolutely free to the families of NICU babies. Help me spread the word! Send them over to my page and have them contact me for more information! Help me provide them with memories to last a lifetime.
Before Your Session
NICU sessions will be a lifestyle type session, without props or posing. I don't bring anything with me except my camera. I want to capture your baby in the NICU environment that he or she lives in every day, and that includes feeding tubes, wires, and monitors.
Sessions last 10-15 minutes, so please be at your bedside and ready to start at your appointment time. Please have your baby dressed and ready to start when I arrive. Do not wait for me to arrive to dress the baby if you are planning to put the baby in a specific outfit. This will allow time to get the baby settled before we start shooting.
Please let your nurse know that I am coming for NICU Portraits. They may want to tidy up your baby’s bed and linens. All white blankets photograph great, but you are welcome to incorporate personal items if you wish.
I will not be handling your baby, but I may reposition a hand or foot. Moving the baby is up to the parents and nurses.
Images from NICU sessions will be edited after my regular clients' images are completed. It may be a few weeks before you see your final images.
Your photos will be uploaded to a private, online gallery for you to view, share, and download images. I do not provide USB, CDs, or DVDs.
Parents must sign a consent to have NICU images taken. This is to protect you, me, and baby. This release will be provided to you electronically to sign before the session. Levine Children’s families will also have to sign an Atrium release.
I’d love to feature your baby on my blog for other NICU families to read your story. Of course you can opt out of that if you’d like, but feel free to share the blog posts on social media or with your NICU friends if I share your story.
Please let me know if your baby is no longer in the NICU area or has been discharged prior to your session. This will allow me to adjust my schedule if needed and allow time to get to the baby’s new location.
